Art Van taps retail veteran to run mattress stores

Art Van Furniture, a retailer based in Warren, Mich., has named Brian Bandarra vice president and general manager of its Mattress World stores. He replaces Armando Murillo, who left the company to pursue other interests.

In a related change, Bandarra and the entire Mattress World operation, which includes nearly two dozen stores throughout Michigan and a half-dozen in Indiana, now report to Steve Glucksman, Art Van vice president of new business development.

Bandarra joins Art Van with more than 20 years of retail sales management, including five years as executive vice president of sales and field operations for Mattress Firm. He has worked for a slate of diverse national retailers, including LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, General Nutrition Centers and David’s Bridal.

“We’re excited to have Brian join us as part of the Mattress World organization,” said Art Van Elslander, company founder and chairman. “He comes to Art Van Furniture with keen insight into the industry and a proven track record of success.”

Commenting on his new position, Bandarra said, “I am very excited to join the Art Van Furniture organization. The company’s reputation as a furniture and mattress powerhouse is well known throughout the industry. I am looking forward to working with the team and will look to add value as fast as possible.”
