THE CORREA BILL (SB 245) AMENDED AND READY FOR THE SENATE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY COMMITTEE
SB 245 IS LEGISLATION TO IMPROVE USED MATTRESS RECYCLING IN CALIFORNIA
SACRAMENTO, CA – The Correa bill, Senate Bill 245 (SB 245), has been amended and is ready to be heard in the California Senate Environmental Quality Committee in the coming weeks.
Introduced by Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana), SB 245 seeks to promote California mattress recycling in a realistic and equitable manner. Senator Correa stated, “The intent of SB 245 is to create public policy that will not only clean up the blight of illegally dumped mattresses in our neighborhoods and along our roads, but will also create a comprehensive solution that is good for the environment, California consumers and industry.”
Per the legislation, SB 245 will establish a single program for recycling used mattresses that is both economical and practical, and will get rid of illegal mattress dumps, harness existing infrastructure for transporting used mattresses to recyclers, and minimize costs to both government and consumers.

They are ready for a comprehensive mattress recycling solution that is consumer friendly and efficient. The SB 245 model is very similar to existing recycling systems in California for paint and used carpet. Our goal is to create a program that will advance mattress recycling in California and set an example for the rest of the nation. As SB 245 advances in the Senate and Assembly, we look forward to working with members of the Legislature and all stakeholders to meet that goal.”
