Michael Shoe has joined Kingsdown Inc. as director of quality systems for the Mebane, N.C.-based mattress maker. His responsibilities include leading Kingsdown’s total quality management program, raising standards across all Kingsdown plants and integrating the sales and marketing departments into a single quality system. He reports to Joe Schmoeller, executive vice president of operations and chief operating officer, and replaces Michael Carter.

Shoe is a manufacturing veteran with more than 18 years of experience in the textile industry. Most recently, he spent six years as a senior facilities manager for Jones Lang LaSalle. Prior to that, Shoe worked for the former textile major Burlington Industries. He joined the company in 1989 and advanced through the ranks to become a multisite plant manager. While with Burlington, he implemented ISO 9000 quality systems, directed Six Sigma process improvements and led a turnaround for the Cone jacquards business unit.

“Throughout his career, Mike has been involved in all aspects of manufacturing, quality and safety,” Schmoeller said. “We believe that his broad breadth of experience will help us to maintain and improve quality standards throughout the entire production process. He also will serve as a liaison among our facilities, overseeing our internal reporting structure to continually improve communication among our divisions and make sure we have 100% employee involvement in the process.”
