I like a 'smart' bed--these caught my eye at Las Vegas Market

LV Market

World Market Center

Having just spent four days looking at the latest, greatest mattresses at the winter Las Vegas Market Jan. 26-30, I can safely say the mattress industry is getting pretty ‘smart.’

L&P Premier

No pinching L&P Adjustable Bed Group Premier Series

Leggett & Platt Adjustable Bed Group introduced the Premier Series. It’s an adjustable base that knows to turn on the under-bed nightlight when you tiptoe to the bathroom at 1 a.m. “LP Sense” will detect your nose or, more likely, your pet’s nose to prevent unpleasant pinches when the bed is being adjusted. Up to five electrical devices can be integrated into the bed’s tablet control app allowing owners to “create pleasant room scenes for reading, watching TV or sleeping”–which your bed will remember and save for you to use later. The Premier can’t ‘turn off the lights and light a candle’ when you’re in a romantic mood, but L&P may be saving that for their next market intro.

Reverie 8 Series adjustable bed

Stay connected Reverie 8 Series adjustable bed is for work, play–and sleep.

Another adjustable with all the bells and whistles is Reverie’s 8 Series, which all but tucks you in each night. If you so desire, stay “fully connected” while in bed and enjoy the new head-tilt feature, too. The bed will save all of your favorite positions, and its myriad operations can be managed via its proprietary app that uploads to any smart device.

Ztech Sleep

Crowdfund your next mattress purchase? King Koil Ztech Sleep has an app for that.

Speaking of apps, I also got a kick out of King Koil’s new app for the specialty Ztech Sleep collection. Download the Ztechstarter app and all of you Millennials are on your way to crowdfunding your next mattress purchase. (That’s right, ask all your friends on Facebook to contribute and you’ll have a new bed before you know it!) Smart, crazy or both?

Kingsdown Sleep Smart

Mensa bed Kingsdown Sleep Smart bed–Can it get any smarter?

Kingsdown is on its way to becoming a full-fledged participant in the ‘quantified-self movement,’ or perhaps it already is. It brought out further refinements to the Sleep Smart bed, which uses technology to allow you to take control and monitor your every waking, er, sleeping moment. The bed has updated software, integrated POP and is ultimately designed to help users achieve optimal “sleep efficiency.” The bed monitors movement, assesses pain, eases pressure, tracks sleep patterns and puts it all in a report for you–yes, it does that! And the Kingsdown Scientific Measurement and Response Technology (SMART) sensors automatically trigger air cylinders that slowly expand or contract for optimal comfort throughout the night as you change sleep positions.

Wow! ‘Boring white rectangles’ no more.
