The California Department of Toxic Substances Control has proposed a three-year work plan to examine products for regulation under its “Safer Consumer Products” program, as required by the state’s “Green Chemistry” law. The proposed plan identifies numerous categories of consumer products that DTSC intends to examine to determine if regulation is needed. Included in these categories is “bedding” containing “flame retardants.” For purposes of the plan, DTSC will focus on “bedding” that contains “chlorinated and brominated organic compounds, organophosphates.” DTSC will hold two public workshops on the proposed plan.
