Mattress manufacturer Sound Sleep Products Inc., with headquarters in Sumner, Washington, has leased a 4,000-square-foot showroom in nearby Tacoma, Washington, to display beds it is making through a license from Norfolk, Virginia-based Paramount Sleep.
The Paramount Sleep licensing deal is just one in a series of recent transactions for the company. In January, Sound Sleep Products owner John Larsen purchased the Oregon Mattress Co. in Newberg, Oregon. It manufactures Restonic licensed bedding and operates as Oregon Mattress Acquisition, a sister company to Sound Sleep Products, which Larsen bought in 1993. Sound Sleep Products’ Sumner factory is producing the Paramount Sleep products, in addition to an existing Lady Americana line. Larsen also owns Pacific Components in Tacoma, which produces three types of coils, cuts foam, fabricates foundations, pours gel and turns quilt scrap into a product called Eco Pad.
Of his recent acquisitions, Larsen said, “Today’s independent bedding retailers need the same things the larger chains need. We must be able to provide the whole package-—great product and service, plus marketing materials and direction. It’s not just product. We must support them in every phase of the business.”
