Luxury mattress maker Harrison Spinks, with headquarters in Leeds, England, announced that its NaturalStart crib mattresses have been well received by independent retailers. NaturalStart, which launched in October, uses patented BabySpring technology—two layers of pocketed coils with higher gauge wire specifically designed for babies. Other mattress components include a comfort layer of natural animal hair made from Herdwick wool, cashmere and mohair, as well as a center layer of supportive hemp fiber sourced from the company’s 300-acre farm in Yorkshire.

Two models, NaturalStart No.1 and NaturalStart No.2, retail for £199 ($294 U.S.) and £249 ($368 U.S.), respectively. Mattresses are two-sided—the first side provides correct postural support for birth through 18 months; the second is for children up to age five.

“The feedback and demand from retailers and parents across the UK has been fantastic,” said Steve Truswell, sales director for Harrison Spinks’ Nursery Division. “At Harrison Spinks we are committed to delivering the best possible night’s sleep for both parents and babies. By pushing the boundaries and constantly innovating, we have developed a product that we’re extremely proud of and offers the same unique properties and quality as our adult mattresses.”
