Looking on the 'Light' Side of Bedding News at High Point Market

Show me those bright white overexposed mattress panels!

The BedTimes editorial team went in search of bedding news at High Point Market this week. But, some of us had been in the dark for days (following Hurricane Michael, which devastated the Florida Panhandle and then flew through the Carolinas, wreaking havoc on power lines).

Fortunately, sleep products showrooms were powered up and powering on despite post-storm conditions and a rather slow show.

And there always are bright spots when it comes to High Point Market and mattresses and sleep accessories. Plus, for once, the glow of showroom spotlights that always overexposes my camera shots gave me a lift.

Storis CXM demo

The sun was shining in the Storis showroom, or so it seemed.

At retail software giant Storis, the power also was on and we got to gaze at glowing screens there. Shawn McKnight, director of product management, and the rest of the Storis crew were excited to show us the new customer experience management (CXM) component of the company’s software platform. Sales associates can use it on the go without leaving a customer’s side, and it’s available on any screen, even this giant store kiosk.

Shifman Vintage damask panel fabric

Smooth and shiny damask on Shifman’s Vintage bed

We checked out Shifman Mattress Co.’s redesigned Vintage collection. It’s a pretty bed falling in the luxury maker’s middle price points, and it casts a soft glow from the sheen of its new Belgian damask covers punctuated with delicate scrollwork.

The Sleepwell brand skipped right to spring with the sunny Cherry Blossom collection using white, pink and blush fabrics and a wall mural depicting cherry blossoms at their peak in Washington, D.C.

Sleepwell Pretty in Pink

Spring came early with the Sleepwell Cherry Blossom collection.

In the window-filled Paramount Sleep showroom, which it shared with Eclipse International at this show, the two companies displayed the all-white Pure Talalay Bliss collection.

And, sure enough, front and center at the entrance to licensing group Therapedic International, bright lights glinted off the new all-white panels of American Glory, the patriotic-themed group that rolled out earlier this year.

Corsicana Renue Performance

Malouf created a clean well-lighted place for retailers to display their duvets. It’s a handy white wall unit with bars and shelves that make it easy to drape products and packaging, too. It gives consumers a chance to get their hands on the goods before they buy.

We looked at the bright side of Corsicana’s Renue Performance group, which is dressed in trendy but more somber gray. The collection has been selling like hotcakes, the company said. Another bright spot, these beds reach higher price points for the promotional bed maker.

Ergomotion Motion Pure adjustable base

Ergomotion’s Motion Pure adjustable base is as light as air.

Ergomotion had a completely different take on light. The slender and lightweight Motion Pure adjustable base weighs much less than the model it replaces. It easily can be lifted and placed into existing bedroom furniture or used with the unit’s height-customizable, three-in-one legs.

In a perfect ending to a light-filled Monday at High Point Market, the power popped back on at my house when I pulled in the drive.
