Fairfield, New Jersey-based Precision Textiles has attained the Global Organic Textile Standard certification for its Troy, North Carolina, manufacturing facility.
To receive the certification, the plant underwent a vigorous auditing process to ensure that it meets the rigorous standards set forth for the production and processing of organic fibers. In compliance with the certification, all of Precision’s “organic” labeled products must use a minimum of 70 percent organic fibers. The facility must also comply with the GOTS standard for environmental criteria — keeping the facility toxin-free, implementing water and energy conservation measures, etc. — and labor standards defined by the International Labor Organization.
“Organic and natural products are one of the fastest growing subcategories of the mattress industry, so it was important for us to meet the GOTS standards and participate more fully in this opportunity,” said Scott Tesser, CEO of Precision Textiles. “We have always been committed to providing safer, chemical and toxin-free products for our customers. The GOTS certification was another important milestone for us in that direction.”
Having a GOTS certification offers assurance to Precision’s customers that its products are produced and processed in a manner that is organic, environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. The label provides consumers with confidence to make well-informed decisions when purchasing products that promote healthier choices, reduce environmental impact and support ethical practices in the industry.
Precision’s 170,000-square-foot facility in Troy opened in September 2021 and has since become the company’s primary facility serving the home furnishings industry. It is the first of Precision’s facilities to receive the certification.
