Family-owned mattress maker Diamond Mattress has followed its 2011 introduction of the CoolTouch memory foam collection with new CoolTouchGEL, opening at a suggested retail of $999 in queen sizes.

The new beds are designed to give retailers a highly competitive option in gel memory foam products, the Rancho Dominguez, Calif.-based producer said in a news release.

“Our mission is and has been to provide retailers with engaging and innovative mattress designs of better quality than those offered by the major brands, but at real and recognizable values that attract shoppers,” said Shaun Pennington, Diamond Mattress vice president. “Considering the quality components in these new beds and their aesthetic appeal on the sales floor—all at 30% less cost to the retailer—the CoolTouchGEL line more than meets the objectives of our company mission.”

The new beds have a layer of breathable CoolTouchGEL, a memory foam infused with gel beads, at the top of the bed and not buried under layers of material—a design the company calls Direct Contact technology.

“We think of the effect of this technology as ‘the bed and body as one,’” Pennington said. “By bringing to the very top of the mattress those premium components that factor most in delivering a great night’s sleep, we can promise maximum pressure relief, superior comfort and no sagging or body impressions.”

Beneath the gel foam are additional layers of ventilated CoolTouch memory foam and a core of Eco-Flex high-density foam. Eco-Flex is a CertiPUR-US certified foam that is manufactured using a portion of renewable content. The beds are available in 10.5-inch and 12.5-inch heights and can be paired with an adjustable base or an all-wood foundation.

The ticking is a super-stretch knit with a floral motif, accented with bands of tan upholstery-grade fabric on the borders.

Diamond is backing the introduction with a wide range of in-store support materials, including coordinated top-of-bed items, brochures, banners, demo units and display inserts. All CoolTouchGEL beds are manufactured domestically from U.S.-made components.
