The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission recently issued a proposed rule to amend the existing requirements for certificates of compliance (16 CFR Part 1110). The original rule was published in 2008 to implement a provision of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which requires manufacturers of nonchildren’s products to issue a certificate stating compliance with all applicable safety standards.
Separately, the CPSIA requires manufacturers of children’s products to issue a similar certification. According to the CPSC, the proposed rule would clarify certification requirements and make them consistent with the 16 CFR Part 1107 rule that recently took effect. Comments on the proposed changes are due July 29.
