Organic Mattresses Inc., manufacturer of the OrganicPedic brand with headquarters in Yuba City, Calif., is using findings from its proprietary “Organic Demographic Study” to help retailers calculate the size of the organic market in their geographic trading area. Retailers are presented with statistical data in PDF files created especially for them to gain insight into the number of organic consumers in a specific area, as well as the types of organic products they are buying.
“Retailers tend to look at organic as a niche market, but with statistics showing 70% of families in the country regularly purchasing organic products, the category is actually much larger than it is typically perceived,” said Walt Bader, OMI president and founder. “If an independent bedding store is located near multiple fresh food markets, organic wellness centers and larger health-oriented shops, it is clear that the local consumers are aware of the positive benefits of these products.”
