Wheeling, Illinois-based Simmons Engineering Corp., a supplier of cutting blades to foam fabricators and mattress manufacturers, was one of 66 companies honored this year with the President’s “E” Award for U.S. exporters.
Administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the President’s “E” Award was created by executive order in 1961 to recognize people, firms or organizations that contribute significantly in the effort to increase U.S. exports.
“Simmons Engineering has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker in a letter announcing Simmons’ selection as an award recipient. “The ‘E’ Awards Committee was very impressed with Simmons Engineering’s customization of products for export markets. The company’s strategic planning of product development to grow sustainable export markets was also particularly impressive. Simmons Engineering’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs.”
Commenting on the award, Colin Murphy, Simmons Engineering vice president and general manager, said, “Exporting continues to be the foundation of our sales growth, and we are honored to receive the ‘E’ Award. Our export sales have been increasing at an accelerated rate in the past five years and we expect that trend to continue, enabling us to sustain jobs and even expand our work force.”
