ISPA Releases the Q3 2016 Bedding Market Quarterly

ISPA has released the 2016 3rd quarter ISPA Bedding Market Quarterly (paywall). This publication provides quarterly and year-to-date mattress market data obtained from a large percentage of the U.S. mattress industry. Published statistics include U.S. and regional sales of mattresses and stationary foundations, U.S. sales of adjustable foundations, and retail price point data.

The Bedding Market Quarterly also includes general economic indicators that can affect the demand for consumer products, including mattresses, and timely market commentary by a guest columnist. This quarter’s columnist is Budd Bugatch, CFA, Managing Director of Furnishings Research at Raymond James and Associates.

This issue of the Bedding Market Quarterly shows that for the 3rd quarter of 2016, unit shipments and wholesale revenues decreased compared to 3rd quarter 2015 levels by 4.7% and 2.5%, respectively, while AUP increased 2.3% compared to the same period in 2015.

Year-to-date quarterly unit sales decreased by 2.2% while the wholesale dollar levels of those units increased by 0.9% compared to 2015 levels. The year-to-date AUP also increased 3.2% over the same period of 2015.

The Bedding Market Quarterly reports U.S. sales activity (including Puerto Rico) for 12 U.S. mattress producers. The participating companies accounted for 68.8% of the mattress units shipped and 77.4% of the wholesale market revenue for mattresses sold in 2015. The experience of these participants as a group does not necessarily reflect those of the entire mattress manufacturing industry. Furthermore, comparisons of Bedding Market Quarterly results for different time periods can be affected by a number of factors, including differences in the number of work days and holiday promotions in a given quarter, weather conditions, etc.
