Vita Cellular Foams Ltd. has won the FIRA Innovation Award for a medical mattress with built-in anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. The award, presented by the furniture industry group FIRA, is given to unique products based on their innovation, safety and performance.
Vita Cellular Foams, a polyurethane foam supplier in the United Kingdom, worked with anti-microbial protection supplier Microban International Ltd. and health care equipment supplier Westmeria Healthcare Ltd. to create the mattress and cover. Microban Zinc technology is locked into the foam to prevent the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew; Microban 3G Silver is used in the cover to kill up to 99.9% of harmful bacteria, including E. coli and MRSA.
The mattress has a Reflex foam core to aid pressure distribution.
