The U.S. Senate has confirmed two of President Barack Obama’s nominees to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Marietta Robinson was first nominated by Obama in January 2012. She is a trial attorney from Michigan, where she previously served as a trustee for the Dalkon Shield Trust and was an unsuccessful candidate for the Michigan Supreme Court.
Ann Marie Buerkle is a former Republican Congresswoman from Syracuse, N.Y., and was a member of the House Tea Party Caucus. For the time being, the confirmations return the CPSC to a full five-member commission with three Democrats and two Republicans.
Republican Commissioner Nancy Nord must leave the CPSC in October unless she is reconfirmed. CPSC Chairwoman Inez Tenenbaum has said that she will resign once a successor for her position is confirmed.
