Naturepedic and Lullaby Earth earn ‘safer chemistry’ award

Organic mattress manufacturer Naturepedic and sister crib mattress company Lullaby Earth were honored by the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable for being charter members of the nonprofit’s Safer Chemistry Challenge Program. According to the organization’s website, the program “rewards companies that design and manufacture products that reduce the use of chemicals, especially hazardous chemicals, through source reduction measures.”

Naturepedic, with headquarters in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, makes and markets organic baby and adult mattresses using organic cotton, organic latex and encased coils. Its finished product certifications include the Global Organic Textile Standard and the Global Organic Latex Standard.

Lullaby Earth, which launched in 2012, is billed as a “nontoxic, lightweight and affordable” crib mattress that retails for $159 and is free of all controversial treatments and known allergens. The crib beds are PVC-free and polyurethane foam-free and are waterproofed with food-grade polyethylene.

In particular, the two bed brands were recognized for meeting all government flammability standards without the use of fire barriers or flame retardant chemicals, a Naturepedic news release said.
