Legislation introduced by a member of the Washington, D.C., City Council would ban certain flame retardants in the district and require manufacturers to submit documentation showing their products do not contain any of the banned substances. Among the flame retardants banned by the bill are TBB, Antimony, TBPH, TDCPP, TCPP and TCEP. The bill also would allow the city to request certification from a manufacturer demonstrating compliance with the law. The bill would take effect July 2015 for children’s products and July 2016 for all products. It is unclear at this time whether the bill will move forward.
