Mattress industry supplier HSM, with headquarters in Hickory, North Carolina, participated in the Catawba Community College Education Matters Extreme STEM teacher-tour initiative. The Extreme STEM teacher tours are an offshoot of the college’s original program aimed at giving area eighth-graders a behind-the-scenes look at careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
HSM hosted about 50 teachers and administrators from area secondary schools who received a showroom tour and overview of the company’s “innovation-management process,” products, lab, and testing and prototyping capabilities. Teachers learned more about careers in local industries and how their curriculum can tie into real-world positions at advanced manufacturing companies.
“HSM is committed to supporting education in the local community and increasing student/teacher awareness of the STEM career paths in our region, as well as the specific skills and training required to enter those fields,” said Gregg Greulich, HSM corporate vice president of innovation and technology. “As the manufacturer’s manufacturer, we are proud to help build our future together.”
